We went to see her last night ( Thursday ) To drop off a blanket so that we could get the mums scent on it. We noticed that the pups are now being kept in a kennel in the breeders garden, we asked Why that was and she replied that it was normal to move them out once They are about 5 weeks old and they have a heater Also she said that the KC papers haven't arrived yet!! Is this normal practice or am I being Too suspicious Any advice Welcomed Thanks David

But i do know that KC papers can take some time, ours arrived after taking pup away but thankfully we had nice friendly breeders who delivered them to us, whilst at the same time, checking pup was getting on ok. I would be a bit wary about taking a pup away so soon though, if you are having her next week then that would make her only 6 weeks old

Posts: 45 May 20 11 12:02 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	We got Bailey and Tilly`s KC papers about three weeks after we collected the pups, luckily we know our breeder. The KC reason was they were busy because of Crufts Our pups were in a different place to their mum from about 4 weeks, there were 10 0f them so mum needed a rest but she had "visiting rights." We went to pick them when they were 5 weeks old (they are now 15 weeks) We hadn`t the foresight to take a towel, but Nicola did give us a towel with mum`s scent on it. Hope this helps. Springaholic Posts: 596 May 20 11 3:09 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't think it is that unusual for Mum and Pups to be in difference places from early on. Bramble and co were separated from mum Keely early on, purely because they were massive pups and were draining the life from her as she is a tiny female, despite everything she was loosing a huge amount of weight so the vets advice was to get them weaned and let her recover. Keely had visiting rights but really wasn't that bothered by the pups from 4 weeks on. The only time she went near the pups was when we visited Brams and the other pups for cuddles (which was at least once a week from 2 weeks old) she was nosey as to who was there, she would always have lots of fuss from us and then went back to sleeping in the garden. As for the KC papers, we didn't get Brams papers when we picked him up, but I wasn't worried as knew the breeders well. Suppose it depends on how well you know and trust them. Have fun with your bundle of fur next week and looking forward to seeing piccies!

Extreme Springaholic Posts: 1765 May 20 11 5:44 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I wouldn't worry about the pups being separate from mum, but I would worry about them not being habituated to household noises and events after 5 weeks of age. The window of opportunity for socialisation is ever so short, three weeks stuck in a garden is a golden opportunity missed. I wouldn't buy a puppy from a breeder whose pups were not fully exposed to normal household goings on all the time. I would also worry about a breeder who doesn't seem to know about the crucial role of early socialisation, and who only thinks the pups need to be fed & kept warm . JMO though.

Our 3 have come to us from 3 different circumstances and are all happy and well socialised. Deefa we picked up at 10 weeks, she was raised in the breeder's house and was exposed to people and other dogs. Sage we picked up at 7 weeks, having been raised in kennels with her litter mates. Jem we picked up at 6 months, having been initially raised in kennels with her litter mates and then latterly sharing a kennel with one sibling. They are all happy in kennels, in houses, around people, other dogs and livestock.

The socialization issue is a concern. there is 7 pups , five go to their new owners tomorrow (Sat) one goes next wed and because of work i cant get mine until next Thurs, so she will last to go the breeder said she will put her in with her cocker Wednesday night but im trying to find a way to get her home before then . ive got everything prepared at home crate, chew toys ETC ,ive read 3 puppy books Soooooo Nervous. my wife says im over thinking the breeder concerns but i want to do it properly . Sorry About The Rant Thanks Again David
