Hello if i have posted incorrectly i apologise (not so good with computers).
After having to say farewell to my old labrador (12 years of age having suffered degenerative myelopathy for 9 months that i knew of ).
We decided we were ready for another dog (i had been looking on iternet constantly if im truthfull).
We respopnded to an advertisment ,viewed and brought home Brodie a 18 week (today) black and white english springer.
Although been brought up around and owned dogs all of my life i have never owned a springer before.
He settled immediatly into our home and routine ,very quickly re adjusted his toileting habits etc.
i have taught him to sit and in process of learning down ,training lessons booked also.
I am very happy with how he is settling .He i believe had been a xmas pup can see from his paperwork was collected by the family on 29/12/11 and had a variety of chrismas soft toys although i was not told i believe reason behind them not wanting anymore is teething ,yes extremely sharp teeth.
I am in it for the long haul and brodie is now in his forever home ,but do intend to start as i mean to go on with him so hopefully good habits immedatly.
I have 2 questions not sure if i ask here or else where ,so i shall continue on.Toys have slowly been replaced with a variety of nice hard chewing toys for him to chew on but he wants to chew on my hand ,arm, back of leg etc ...i have tried the no firmly ,standing up turning my back to him ..which has no impact at all just grabs back of leg and tries to mate with my leg.Thought perhaps best thing would be to carry a few treats with me and when he does same ,use treat put him into a sit and then a down,it worked this morning diverting him successfully ,but my only worry is am i rewarding bad behaviour ,advice and tips very welcome.
2.Feeding he arrived to our home with a bag of dry supermarket branded biscuits ,I would like to continue with dried food and raw for treats occasionally ets but can people please advise me of best make of food for springers as i wish for him to be fed well recieving correct nutritional intake .
I will post a photo of my gorgeous boy as soon as i upload one.
thanks maureen
