We are off on holiday to Youlgreave on Saturday. Had anyone got any good recommendations of places to go, walks to do, pubs to visit etc. I have never been to the peaks before so any suggestions welcome. Obviously the gruesome twosome will be coming too, so dog friendly places please.

We will be taking bikes and walking boots and an OS map so I'm sure we can make our own trouble

Things to do
Tissington cycle trail
Lots of other cycle trails..they have built lots of tunnels now and the trails go OVA the tunnels
Download maps david up road to me has been up there a lot recently and has run us off some great maps.
Carsington water reservoir and water sports centre 8 miles round on paths 3 access points one has a caff dogs on leads
Monsal Trail walk my fave, park at pub at top of aqueduct and go down to river and great walk about 8 miles takes you through ashbourne in the water, sheep on the bit as you come out from firsr lot of woodland but trail runs by river, tumbling OVA rocks.
Bakewell lovely town.
Blue John caves near Mam Tor, good for higher up walk
Go right up to dark peak Edale where other long distance walk starts...crikey brian has gone this morn
You can hire bikes everywhere but spect you prefer own.
Maidenbower reservoir more rural for dogs than carsington
You need to go to Dove dale and go OVA stepping stones. near Ilam
Some trails pass through Youlgreave
Matlock quite pleasant for little town nose around, caffs on street river runs through town
Miller Dale...lots of walks go through farm yards and lambing at the mo...for freedom choose woodland walks, if you dont need to do a mammoth one you can do loads of shorter ones
OOh Chatsworth, dogs on leads but a must for waterfeature, shop and Lady devonshire goodies and tea rooms lots of DEER for fenton type experience.There is a camp site there with doggy walking area if you wanted a quick off lead run first

Also in May at Tissington village they do the well dressing. Good pub on the main road just down from Tissington too. Think it is called the Bluebell. They allow dogs in.

The other cycle trail to do is the Manifold. Not quite as interesting as the Tissington trail but you can walk for miles. Nice cafe to stop at at Whetton Mill.

Also nice cafe in the square with tables outside at Ashbourne - do very nice gingerbread men.

Dovedale is a great walk - shame about them capping the stepping stones though I found them easier before they decided to make them safer.

There is also Lathkil Dale (not sure of spelling - Fuddles is the one to ask about that).

Also a good walk in Castleton - not sure what it is called - but it is almost adjacent to the Caravan Club site. You go through a sort of college place to get to main walk.

I think between me and Charlotte all the ones I know have been mentioned. My colleague on the desk at work goes up to Bakewell a lot. I'll ask her tonight about other walks but I may not get them on here in time before you go as I am foolishly playing golf tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at 8.30 a.m

If so there are lots of walks in the welcome pack and I think I left some there last time.

Your morning walk will be Bradford Dale at the bottom, sheep to the left but fenced in, occaisionally big black cows but rarely

Or you can climb up just after the old Manor and theres a walk off to the right. The cows here are a menace so avoid, mind you cows scare me daft

The Bradford Dale walk leads on to Alport, then Lathkill Dale and you can do the full circular back up and over to Youlgrave. Climb up to the pub its well worth it and tell them we will be there soon

Takes about 3 hours.

The other morning walk leads you to Lathkill too.

You can break Lathkill up into little circular walks.

Monsal Dale from Ashford on the Water is a favourite too, walled tracks up to the pub, again you can make it a big walk or a wee walk.

Only had one pub meal in Youlgrave and it wasn't up to much. The Deli is good and does wicked sandwiches. Check the opening time. Oh and a chap down towards the Dale sells his own fruit and veg.

Yep, Pumpkin.

Found out it haz a freezer too.

Really chuffed as I can take the girls food (raw) otherwise we were kibble and wetting but prefer the raw. G drinkg buckets on dry, its like she can't control it, she can't control the other end either afterwards

Not good for someone elses house...

Thansk for all of the suggestions I will take them with us. Off to pick up and OS map of the area shortly.

I'm not sure G will be off lead anywhere least likely woody walks as she seems to go AWOL sometimes, can't risk her with sheep. Jess would is fine with sheep but we will still lead her when there is livestock as long as we know about it.

You could also try the Roaches, between Buxton and Leek - lovely wild moorland where the dogs can really run without being able to hide behind trees. A good walk over hen cloud and roache end takes you to The Ship at Winkle to fill up for the walk back.

They've only just got Freeview in them parts so I don't know, never taken my lappy there.

Another couple of walks. Try Monyash to Youlgrave or vice versa and take in Long Ash farm (think it's that) and grab an ice cream and look out for the weird garden n cave. Monyash has a wicked Cafe/Bistro at the side of the pub. There are sheep on the way but you can see far and wide and check where they are and lead up. Dependant on which route you take, some ways are walled tracks.

Goyt Valley is worth the journey over Buxton way as well.

There's a pub called the Royal Oak that does amazing food and dogs are allowed in. I think it's the Tissington trail that Linda was talking about but at the beginning. You would have to Google.

We tend to eat at the Lathkill Arms, the buffets at the weekend are to die for.

Just watch the front door, it's straight onto the street and tractors tend to rumble past and cars on the narrow street. Just a case of leading up and using your noggin

Ok I am very very jelly now, off to book now when we normally go.
